In fact, in places like Kazakhstan, entire bodies of water are being dried up by our clothing addiction. Cotton plantations in the Soviet Union sucked up all the water that fed the Aral Sea. Plants and animals died as the waters became saltier. Because of this, hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced.
None of us enter a mall thinking, “I am going to use my money to exploit other people and the planet.” But many of us also don’t do anything to stop that exploitation, even when the solutions are simple."
